Fallon

Special guest appeared in mine.
To the right on the wall is a picture of my boss pointing at me with a glass boot he had just finished in front of his face and a handwritten message "Don't fuck this up."

Behancey

Here's mine.
Note the Blue Action Steps.
Yes, I'm productive.
And HBS case study to the left.
Yes, I still read those things.

And for those of you in SF, I'm throwing not one but TWO parties.
Wednesday, July 16 will be Cause for Drinks at Mr. Smith's from 7 - 10 PM.
The next night, on July 17, I'm throwing an event with Behance and PSFK called We Like You at Otis. Tell all your friends.
That's how I roll yo.

My Desk

It occurred to me after seeing a pic of Brandau's office (yes, OFFICE), that it'd be fun to see everyone else's work spaces.

Here's my shitty workspace. Show me yours! Be sure to make note of anything inappropriate or vulgar on your desk. And show your window view if you have one. Bonus if you are in the pic. I miss all of your faces...

On the road to Al Ain

We drove out into the desert, and found...

well, exactly what you'd expect to find in the middle of the desert where it's 117 degrees...

an indoor ice skating rink, of course.

This 'fun park' had barbed wire all around it. We tried to get in, but it was ladies day.

Burka Burka Burka Burka

In an attempt to show Tom how much I appreciate him, I sent him on assignment to Dubai and Abu Dhabi for the next week.

He will be observing Arabic focus groups and trying not to offend too many people.

I'm pretty sure since he's started we've been in the office at the same time maybe a day and a half.

This works perfectly, except when he sends out all agency emails without runnin' them by me first.

Take this one, on his first day, for example:

Subject: the coolest

planner ever to work here.
compliment my beard and i will buy you a pint of your choice.
seriously. i need to make friends.

That little doozy was quite the hit.

By the way, how do ya'll feel about the planner survey?
Saw that Fallon Planning Blog is the second most read, which will probably spiral downward in popularity now that Tom has to post to it.

Port O'Brien aka. Port O'Face Melting Awesome

This band is so good. Its so good that:
I. Can't. Stop. Listening.

It's so good that I know the words and jumble them up when I'm singing in the shower.

It's so good that I wish to know these people personally.

It's better than average music, and I will gladly give it to you, if only to know that you will thereafter be in debt to me.

Listen to it on Myspace, then hurdle yourself electronically towards me.

I assume this is the customary mode of transportation in Minnesota?

I'm moving there.

Miss Dzurko I presume...

There are many of us, two years out, that have changed jobs.
A good bunch of us have jumped cities.
There have been relationship gymnastics.
Weddings.

And with any move, things get lost in the shuffle.

But isn't it great when something you didn't even know was missing surprises you like a $20 in an old pair of culottes?

From the site: http://www.kwikkopy843.com/about/staff.html

Caroline Dzurko, General Manager

"Caroline has worked at Kwik Kopy since she was 16. She spent her summers during high school and college here, waiting on the counter and working in bindery. Caroline graduated from Longwood University in 1999 with a BA in English. She taught school in Chesterfield County for five years before deciding to come learn the “Family Business”.

She is responsible for the day to day running of the business, and with a strong creative background she is the “go to” girl for your special marketing projects.

When she’s not working, Caroline enjoys physical fitness, camping, reading, slinging beers at the Race track, entering bikini contests, and spending time at her summer home in the Hamptons."

I wish her well.

the sick kids got hitched!

and now they're in mexico! but congrats to everyone's favorite adcenter couple (voted "couple with the most staying power" in the underground poll that never got published).

however, knowing them and their luck, krissie, er, kristin, has probably come down with diphtheria, kevin may or may not have gotten spit on by a gang of homeless mexican eunuchs and one of their oxen drowned while they attempted to ford the river.

have fun lovers and come home safely!

Everbody's favorite cucumber

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_sqUspQBq38

According to BBH Art Director Andy Tider, the story goes something like this, "This week I decided to leave my position as an Art Director at BBH New York. This being BBH though, I couldn't just go out with a "goodbye letter". So I spent my last night as a BBH employee stealing everything that wasn't nailed down. On video. Then I sent it to the entire company."

Noteworthy on this blog mostly for the brief mention of an old friend, the owner of a gourd at 1:46.

call me crazy...

remember that project we had to do for charlie where we were supposed to develop a community model. well, if there is any chance you still have your project OR at least have the deck charlie gave us, i'd really appreciate it if you could e-mail it to me. i'm working on developing something along those lines for work and i could use those as a reference.

i know, i know. i'm sure you're thinking to yourselves, "danielli, why don't you just use that awesome rah + monolith + whip presentation you, josh, kumar and brandon made?"

i think you all know the answer to that one.

if you've got them, send the decks to danielli (dot) alejos (at) gmail (dot) com.

smooches!

BFFs

Congrats, jwb. Give Danny a squeeze for all of us.

Frozen Tundra

Well Hello,
It recently came to my attention that San Francisco, for most of the year, is just too agreeable. It's making me hippy soft. Not good. So, I climbed out of my joyfully static state and jumped ship to Fallon. Where it is (-) degrees much of the year; tough. It also is the same city and building that houses Daniel Burke; near impossible. I imagine this will make me a better person, or at least grant me super powers.

You may be reading this and asking yourself- so how does this benefit me? Fair enough. If you live in NYC, I will now be forced to visit your vile concrete slab once or so a month. I will invariably buy you some drinks or trinkets. Boon to you. For the rest of you with the good sense not to live in Satans' Whale Eye, you now have a adviser to steer you successfully through such thorny topics as- Why do people ice fish? Isn't Prince from Minnesota? What is it like to live so close to North Dakota (does it even exist?), and other hot-wire topics of the day.

So, I think we can all agree this is the best thing for us. Well done. I knew we could do this.

P.S.
Oh, and about the blog belonging to me- that's just silly- but YOU posting every now and again would be ice dragons.

Can't let Mike have all the fun...

It's a nice place with really nice people. It's a new arena for me, interactive that is, but as the world turns more to the web I think it's a good skill to master.

For the time being, I'll be running the PhRMA and Georgetown U. accounts. So, if anyone needs to know the next time Montel will be on the Partnership for Prescriptions RV let me know...I just can't seem to get away from those RV's.

Miss you all and hope to see everyone soon!

Carrier?

Are you a carrier today?

Can't wait to wear a shirt, in San Francisco, that features a biohazard logo and proclaims me as a 'carrier'. I'm sure that will elicit exactly the wrong response.

Can't wait to see if they put the logo on bomber jackets.

Can't wait...

Happy Birthday Bones!

I still remember the first day of Adcenter when everyone had to go around the room and introduce themselves. And you said, my name is Alison Bonner NOT Boner. And that is when I thought to myself, I want to be that girls friend. And then you said that you went to Virginia Tech, and I said, nevermind.

I hope that you have a FABULOUS birthday. I miss you roomie - please move back to the proper coast away from those hippies immediately.

Howdy

Tom sent this to me. He is using it in some sort of deck- for what I don't know. He refuses to post it. He also owes me dollars. Over 100 of them. Deadbeat.

http://www.yhchang.com/DAKOTA.html

We thought it was a Bukowski poem. Turns out, its Ezra Pound.

Boyd thinks that the breakneck pace of bits is the artists attempt to convey chaos, which is integral to the feel of the piece.

I just really really (two times) like it.

If you do too- check out a few of his others. Deadbeat really likes "the end".

2007 WRAP-UP

Going off Josh's post, let's get some updates from everyone with these questions:

1) Where do you live? Where do you work? Do you have a significant other?
2) Anything great happen in 2007 you want to share?
3) Any big plans-career/personal wise for 2008?
4) What did you miss most about the Adcenter?
5) Uhhhh, leave something creative/funny/interesting/innovative here

I think it's about time for a 2-year anniversary in..... Richmond, Virginia. I know you guys want to check out the new Adcenter. We should make a weekend out of it.

December Wrap-up

Hello.
Since I have completely exhausted my small and feral group of friends in S.F. with how much I dig No Country for Old Men- I have decided to extend it to you.
I imagine that most of you have had the pleasure of seeing this movie (and hopefully Juno as well), and that you would be first to rise up and agree that it is one of the masterpieces of our time; if you haven't seen it please consider it a holiday request from me.

On a related note, by my estimate I have read between 20-30 books this year (still working out my favorite), and bought oodles of music (Dan Deacon best show, Midlake most repeatedly listenable band), visited a slew of airports (Charlotte #1/Austin #2), and generally been a bombastic consumer of pop culture (cardigans are the new sweater). So, by corollary, most of you have done the same.

So spill them beans. What's the best?

Oh-I really like this picture.

virtual haircut

This is pretty awesome. You have to be wearing headphones for it to work. It's called holophonic sound. Simply put, "It's really just stereo, but it exploits your brain's ability to figure out the direction and distance of sound."

I recommend the virtual haircut and the matchbox one. Oh, and close your eyes.

Big Ass Brass Band

So, Barrie was married this past weekend.
There was lots of gumbo and jazzy dancing.
Lots of hugs and Abita.
A few cakes and a trip to the oldest bar in New Orleans.
Danielli's mom.
A sunrise spied on Bourbon Street.
And some crappy pictures taken with my camera phone.
This is my favorite.
The reception 'officially' finished.
The band opened the doors to the hall.
Everyone had a sparkler.
Don and Barrie hopped in the back of a horse drawn carriage.
And we danced and walked and drank and sang.

Future Feed Forward

Delicious Data

Wondering which city has the most people walking to work? It's West Point, NY.
Or which counties have the highest percentage of residence that had a sunburn in the past 12 months? Top three are all in Utah.
Find this and tons of other "Top 101 Cities" data:

http://www.city-data.com/top2/toplists2.html

Next, plug in your ZIP code, and you'll get census-derived stats, from occupations and income, to education levels and divorce rates.
You can compare up to 20 ZIPs, letting you feel smug about your area's demographic superiority.

Cause for Drinks - September

Here's details on our next event. If you would like to host in your city, let me know. Our next one will be in later October.

Yeahhhhh, All Day Buffet is back! And we've added another city to the mix. AUSTIN! Come join us at our second monthly Cause for Drinks happy hour. This month, proceeds will go to the New Orleans Kid Camera Project. If your corporation would like to match our donation, please contact ADB at mike@alldaybuffet.org

The New Orleans Kid Camera Project was created to address the psychological and emotional impacts of Hurricane Katrina on children returning home to New Orleans. Through the use of photography, creative writing and mixed media, children from flooded neighborhoods explore their environment and express themselves, their stories and feelings with their friends. This project provides a venue for growth and recovery. By teaching the children tangible skills and exposing them to new means of expression, we hope to empower them to impact their lives and environment.

NOLA:
Bridge Lounge
1201 Magazine St

NYC:
Max Fish
178 Ludlow St
maxfish.com

AUSTIN:
Mohawks
912 Red River
mohawkaustin.com

We drink because nourishing creativity in New Orleans is awesome. $2 from every drink will supply young aspiring photographers. Who said that drinking only produces a hangover the next day?

If anyone ever wants to visit, my house is 4 blocks from The Square and Exit10 (where I work) is about 5. Thank you , NYTimes (Cold Yuengling, Fresh Oysters), for showing the side of Baltimore I know. Only thing missing is my fav bar, The Pickled Parrot, but that's just off the square. Conference Registration

This is the official friends and family advanced notice for the Polgamous Wedding (Connection Planning Conference). We open registration to the public next week and there are only about 100 tickets available. A lot of interest. Really. Especially with the debut of Ed Cotton and Gareth Kay’s Planning for Good. So do it now. We’re also excited about hosting you in New Orleans. It’s the perfect excuse to deep dive into our culture. Get the story you don’t see on Anderson Cooper, check out the Voodoo Music Experience, eat too much, and get anthropological with your nightlife in a city that encourages that sort of thing. The perfect coda after a day of doing some cool, inspiring and important work together. To register visit polygamousweddings.com and check out the blog while you're at it too!
