2007 WRAP-UP
Going off Josh's post, let's get some updates from everyone with these questions:
1) Where do you live? Where do you work? Do you have a significant other?
2) Anything great happen in 2007 you want to share?
3) Any big plans-career/personal wise for 2008?
4) What did you miss most about the Adcenter?
5) Uhhhh, leave something creative/funny/interesting/innovative here
I think it's about time for a 2-year anniversary in..... Richmond, Virginia. I know you guys want to check out the new Adcenter. We should make a weekend out of it.

December Wrap-up
Hello.
Since I have completely exhausted my small and feral group of friends in S.F. with how much I dig No Country for Old Men- I have decided to extend it to you.
I imagine that most of you have had the pleasure of seeing this movie (and hopefully Juno as well), and that you would be first to rise up and agree that it is one of the masterpieces of our time; if you haven't seen it please consider it a holiday request from me.
On a related note, by my estimate I have read between 20-30 books this year (still working out my favorite), and bought oodles of music (Dan Deacon best show, Midlake most repeatedly listenable band), visited a slew of airports (Charlotte #1/Austin #2), and generally been a bombastic consumer of pop culture (cardigans are the new sweater). So, by corollary, most of you have done the same.
So spill them beans. What's the best?
Oh-I really like this picture.

virtual haircut
This is pretty awesome. You have to be wearing headphones for it to work. It's called holophonic sound. Simply put, "It's really just stereo, but it exploits your brain's ability to figure out the direction and distance of sound."
I recommend the virtual haircut and the matchbox one. Oh, and close your eyes.

Big Ass Brass Band
So, Barrie was married this past weekend.
There was lots of gumbo and jazzy dancing.
Lots of hugs and Abita.
A few cakes and a trip to the oldest bar in New Orleans.
Danielli's mom.
A sunrise spied on Bourbon Street.
And some crappy pictures taken with my camera phone.
This is my favorite.
The reception 'officially' finished.
The band opened the doors to the hall.
Everyone had a sparkler.
Don and Barrie hopped in the back of a horse drawn carriage.
And we danced and walked and drank and sang.

Delicious Data
Wondering which city has the most people walking to work? It's West Point, NY.
Or which counties have the highest percentage of residence that had a sunburn in the past 12 months? Top three are all in Utah.
Find this and tons of other "Top 101 Cities" data:
http://www.city-data.com/top2/toplists2.html
Next, plug in your ZIP code, and you'll get census-derived stats, from occupations and income, to education levels and divorce rates.
You can compare up to 20 ZIPs, letting you feel smug about your area's demographic superiority.

Cause for Drinks - September
Here's details on our next event. If you would like to host in your city, let me know. Our next one will be in later October.
Yeahhhhh, All Day Buffet is back! And we've added another city to the mix. AUSTIN! Come join us at our second monthly Cause for Drinks happy hour. This month, proceeds will go to the New Orleans Kid Camera Project. If your corporation would like to match our donation, please contact ADB at mike@alldaybuffet.org
The New Orleans Kid Camera Project was created to address the psychological and emotional impacts of Hurricane Katrina on children returning home to New Orleans. Through the use of photography, creative writing and mixed media, children from flooded neighborhoods explore their environment and express themselves, their stories and feelings with their friends. This project provides a venue for growth and recovery. By teaching the children tangible skills and exposing them to new means of expression, we hope to empower them to impact their lives and environment.
NOLA:
Bridge Lounge
1201 Magazine St
NYC:
Max Fish

AUSTIN:

This is pure genius. More artists coming out with hot dances. This one incorporates everything into one. And then they release a video that teaches you how to do it. 4 million hits and counting.

welcome to canton
If anyone ever wants to visit, my house is 4 blocks from The Square and Exit10 (where I work) is about 5. Thank you , NYTimes (Cold Yuengling, Fresh Oysters), for showing the side of Baltimore I know. Only thing missing is my fav bar, The Pickled Parrot, but that's just off the square. FYI, I'll never be a Ravens fan... go Eagles.

Conference Registration
This is the official friends and family advanced notice for the Polgamous Wedding (Connection Planning Conference). We open registration to the public next week and there are only about 100 tickets available. A lot of interest. Really. Especially with the debut of Ed Cotton and Gareth Kay’s Planning for Good. So do it now. We’re also excited about hosting you in New Orleans. It’s the perfect excuse to deep dive into our culture. Get the story you don’t see on Anderson Cooper, check out the Voodoo Music Experience, eat too much, and get anthropological with your nightlife in a city that encourages that sort of thing. The perfect coda after a day of doing some cool, inspiring and important work together. To register visit polygamousweddings.com and check out the blog while you're at it too!

One of clients, the Idea Village, has been picked for the Planning for Good brief. I am looking to assemble a team to work on this brief. And trust me, you'll have a big advantage because I know everything you need to know about New Orleans. I'm been working on this for the past 4 months. Anyone in?

The past couple of posts are from the blog I'm trying to keep updated while I'm in India taking care of visa stuff. Though you guys would like to see some random shots!
Let me know if you guys want anything from the motherland! (Brandon's already put in his request for a camel... I think he's a little confused about India vs. Saudi Arabia).

Ali & Friends
I don't know where the phrase "street urchin" came from... but I met Ali while we were waiting at the butcher. He wanted to see how the camera worked so I took a couple of pictures of him and then next thing I knew he had me taking a bunch of shots of him and his friends.
While leaving the he turns to me and in the most business-like tone says "Get these pictures to me by tomorrow, ok?". I doubt I'll be able to find Ali but maybe he'll stumble across these pictures online.

a nice break
Most of these pictures don't seem like they could be real. And each one has an amazing ability to make your mind wander and ultimately make up stories of their past.
I recommend looking at all of the different themes. They're eerily beautiful and fascinating.

Designer Manifesto
Icon Magazine has published the manifesto's of 50 famous (I imagine, although have no idea) designers. The image is by Yves Behar.
Link: http://www.icon-magazine.co.uk/issues/050/manifestos/index.html
Some of my favorite pieces:
he essence of British landscape architecture was to reshape nature according to fashion and taste; the cult of the cultivar, the art of the artefact... ! Landscape was the domain of dandies, hermits and poets. The 20th century produced landscapes of little or no interest. The specific became general, the norm became the rule, landscape turned into environment. A delicate green tissue turned into a monstrous green blanket...
Landscape architecture should once again become a source of aesthetic experimentation.
AND
Design makes things seem special, and who wants normal if they can have special? And that’s the problem.
What has grown naturally and unselfconsciously over the years cannot easily be replaced. Not that old things shouldn’t be replaced or that new things are bad, just that things that are designed to attract attention are usually unsatisfactory. There are better ways to design than putting a big effort into making something look special. Special is generally less useful than normal, and less rewarding in the long term. Special things demand attention for the wrong reasons, interrupting potentially good atmosphere with an awkward presence. Preserve Normal, resist Special!
AND
Everybody who is honest is interesting
AND
We believe that “content” is something you do – not something you are given by a person in a black T-shirt.

All Day Buffet
I've been keeping this as a secret for the past couple of weeks but the All Day Buffet site is finally launched! Basic premise is to get FULL ON GOOD...
"alldaybuffet has nothing to do with food, yet it has everything to do with promoting and drawing upon our generation's hunger to do good. alldaybuffet connects young adults and social entrepreneurs by creating unique platforms to raise awareness, generate discussion, and inspire action. doing good shouldn't feel like a chore so we connect the things we like to do most with the things that matter most."
It's a mash-up of Good Magazine meets Flavorpill meets LVHRD. Check it out at All Day Buffet and sign-up for our email lists!

NY is full or super heroes
Maybe not heroes, but definitely super.
Yesterday, I was forwarded this site. And while many of you may not actually live in NY, you should still be able to enjoy the mainstream appreciation of the weirdness that exists here.
Check out this site.the most powerful man in the universe
And by the way. My very own DM spotted He-Man at Union Square today and has sent in his photo. Hopefully he will be posting soon. I'm so proud.

Freedom
After much consideration I have decided to spread my wings. I gave notice to Franklin Street that I am going to be exploring other opportunities. But I'm really just going to take a few months off. If anyone knows anyone or hears of any positions in DC, say around October, please shoot me an email at glenn224@hotmail.com.
Dammit, I wish I still had my RV! I could be truckin.
Hope to see you all soon.

Quests
Sounds like your friend is on a quest:
I think you're all fucked in the head. We're ten hours from the fucking fun park, and you wanna bail out! Well, I'll tell you something, this is no longer a vacation . . . it's a quest! It's a quest for fun! I'm gonna have fun, and you're gonna have fun! We're all gonna have so much fucking fun we'll need plastic surgery to remove our Goddamn smiles! You'll be whistling Zip-a-dee-doo-da out of your assholes! I've got to be crazy! I'm on a pilgrimage to see a moose! Praise Marty Moose!
I say good luck. If she wants a shot out in SF, lemme know.

a shot in the dark, maybe.
Hey guys! I'm wondering - does anybody in NYC know if there are spots for undergraduate interns in their creative department? I don't know how agencies work usually re:undergrad interns. Here is a snippet from the email I got from my friend Anna Kate:
I met Anna Kate through my blog and have hung out with her a couple of times; she has so much enthusiasm and hunger to learn and create things. She's really wonderful... I can't speak for her friend because I don't know him, but she would be an excellent (UNPAID!) addition to any New York shop. All she wants right now is to learn and get different perspectives. She's a copywriting intern at McCann right now - she got the position over some rising portfolio-school-kids. Let me know if we can help Anna Kate!
Hope everyone is well. Favorite part of the summer? (:
My friend and co-intern, Matt Koulermos (mattkoulermos.com) and I are on the look out for an internship for the academic year. Any suggestions? I know most agencies (including Naked, probably) do not do an official Fall intern program. But we're happy to work for free (free! = academic credit) and we come as a team (AD and CW, once or twice a week - we're thinking Fridays). So, basically, we want to offer our youthful, trendy insights (and wear great shoes) to some awesome ad shop, weekly. For free. Did I mention that we want to work for free?
You'll notice that Matt there has a website up already --- I've set my personal deadline to catch up to 1998 and get my website up next week. Until then, my selling point is the working-for-free thing. And I fetch a mean Starbucks latte.

Disney Launching 2 Colognes For Pre-Teen Latin Boys
Does anyone think that 4 years old is too young to wear cologne?

Article starts out like this:
Smells Like Profit: Disney Eyes Pre-Teen Fragrance Market
NEW YORK -- Forget the smell of sweat, grass and dirt. Disney Consumer Products wants young boys smelling their best. Disney is rolling out Pirates of the Caribbean- and Buzz Lightyear-branded fragrances targeting boys ages 4-11 in Latin communities. The products, which will retail between $9.95 and $19.95, will reach retail shelves by September in time for the holiday season. "Our strategy is to go after the Hispanic population in the U.S," said Johanna Mooney, director of food, health and beauty at Disney Consumer Products, Burbank, Calif. "The market is driven by gift-giving, so we will target moms and grandmothers—the primary gift-givers." ..."I think it's a fabulous idea by Disney," she said. "The products will sell well. U.S. males are slower to get into the men's fragrance arena than European, Latin and South American men. There is an untapped market with huge potential here." - Rochelle Bloom, president of the Fragrance Foundation, New York.Read the article here.

Absolut New Orleans
This is great.
"At the Tales of the Cocktail festival this week in New Orleans a new version of Absolut vodka is being launched. The festival is an annual event celebrating the art of mixology. For the first time, the Swedish vodka company is naming a flavor for a city. Absolut New Orleans is mango-flavored with a black pepper kick. The flavor is meant to capture the unique spirit of the city. The vodka will be a limited run of 35,000 cases and will sell for $19. The best part of the new is that the vodka is expected to raise $2 million for five Gulf Coast charities. Future city vodkas with a similar charitable aspect are planned for the future."
